CIW receives $1,500 Grainger Matching Gift

Hinesville, GA – The Community of Inspired Women, Inc. recently received a $1,500 gift under the Granger Matching Gift Program. The organization became eligible after an employee, Likishia Kimbrough, contributed a $500 matching gift request for the organization.  In return, Grainger matched with a $1,000 gift.

“The generous donation will help in assisting CIW with our concerted effort to provide solutions to the vulnerabilities and issues of poverty, unemployment, underemployment and low graduation rates that plague our community,” said Daisy Jones, president of CIW. “We serve many women, 19 and older, by leveraging the power of women to promote access, education and support for the development of self-esteem, self-reliance, economic stability and personal growth. This gift is helping to further that mission.”

Through Grainger’s Matching Charitable Gifts Program, the company furthers its goals in social responsibility while encouraging employees to voluntarily support educational, cultural, civic and community, and health and human services organizations. According to Grainger, more than 1,900 team members directed more than $3 million to nearly 2,000 organizations through the Matching Charitable Gifts Program in 2014. The program matches employee and retiree donations on a 3:1 ratio, whereas employees and retirees contribute a donation then the company contributes twice the amount.

Inspired Pink event highlights breast cancer

(October 1, 2014) Hinesville, GA — October is nationally recognized as breast cancer awareness month, which is generally a time for annual campaigns to increase awareness and raise funds. Locally, the Community of Inspired Women’s Inspired Pink event aims to increase awareness and remind women to take the necessary steps to detect and overcome the disease. Women ages 19 and older are invited to the Inspired Pink MERGE on October 7 from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at the Liberty County Performing Arts Center for an inspirational and informational discussion on breast cancer.

The event will feature an “inspired pink” refreshment bar and “stepping to victory” pink shoe fashion show. The main event will be an “Inspired Woman Talk” by breast cancer survivors Charlene Jenkins, Deloris Slay, Gwen Abney and Rose Seda.

Panelists from the medical and public health fields will also discuss the importance of education, exams and exposure to other survivors.

This month’s event was organized by CIW Steering Committee member, Pat Jackson. She chose the topic because the cause is personal for her.

“Two of my best friends are breast cancer survivors,” Jackson said.  “Their friendships allowed me not only to be a source of support but to experience through their experiences the life challenges that breast cancer can present.”

The Community of Inspired Women is providing women an opportunity to share these experiences and get feedback so they can rethink the “it won’t happen to me” attitude, she explained.

“We want those struggling with breast cancer to realize that they are not alone, there is help out there.  We want those who are survivors to continue to inspire others to stay strong.  There’s a community wanting and willing to help and as always the first step is to help ourselves through awareness,” Jackson said.
