CIW hosts novelist, State Rep. Stacey Abrams

(August 28, 2014) Hinesville, GA – Stepping out of the ordinary isn’t easy for most people to do. For the Community of Inspired Women, Inc., this is something they strive to do every time they meet. Only three months after its inaugural MERGE event, the organization is making waves in the community with its outreach projects and monthly gatherings.

The first Tuesday of each month from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at the Liberty County Performing Arts Center in Hinesville, nearly 100 women of all backgrounds come together for networking, information and inspiration. On Sept. 2, the group will host award-winning author Selena Montgomery to discuss how she balances her careers as a novelist, lawyer and Georgia State Representative for the 89th House District.

Rep. Stacey Abrams is a graduate of Spelman College, the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin and Yale Law School. Using the pen name Selena Montgomery, she draws upon her interest in and experiences with social and economic policy, politics and creative writing to fuel her novels.According to Wikipedia, Abrams is the first woman to lead either party in the Georgia General Assembly and is the first African-American to lead in the House of Representatives

“We invited Representative Abrams or should I say Selena Montgomery as a speaker not because of her titles but because of her story,” said Daisy Jones, co-founder of CIW. “No matter who you are, you have a story. Our goal is to share that story and inspire women to get from where they are to where they want to be.”
